Who We Are
Marikoons is a small cattery owned and operated by Jeannie & Bob Marikle located in the Seaport Area of Mystic. We do this as a hobby, it’s quality not quantity that is important to us with health being our #1 priority. We are dedicated to breeding healthy, happy cats with loving personalities that meet the TICA breed standard as closely as possibleHealth
All of our breeding cats starting at around 1 years of age are tested regularly every 1 to 2 years for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) by a Board Certified Cardiologist. We also use DNA testing as well. Please note screening for HCM through DNA as well as heart echo is currently the recommended method to aid in reducing the occurrence of this condition, while no breeder can guarantee that their cat will not develop this condition, we at Marikoons can guarantee that we are diligent in screening our cats making effort to produce healthy cats. In continuing our efforts to produce the heathiest cats we can, we also DNA test all of our breeding cats for Erythrocyte Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency known as PK Deficiency. In order for cats to look their best on the outside it’s important to what goes in the inside. Here at Marikoons we constantly try to learn as much as we can about food ingredients, what is important and what to avoid. We look at many brands of cat food and make recommendations as to what we feel is the best choice to feed our cats (in our opinion). We also feed raw that we make ourselves. This we feel is the BEST and most natural food to feed and we include more information in our Nutrition section of our web site.
